What is SCORE? Where are your chapters located?
SCORE is the nation’s largest network of volunteer, expert business mentors, with approximately 10,000 volunteers in more than 250 chapters nationwide. Since SCORE was founded in 1964, this 501(c)(3) organization has helped more than 11 million current and aspiring entrepreneurs through mentoring, workshops and educational services. Who are SCORE volunteers?
The key qualification SCORE mentors bring is real-world business experience. They are working and retired business owners, executives and managers who have been through the same challenges and decisions that many entrepreneurs are facing today. In addition, SCORE mentors offer valuable expertise in specific industries. All SCORE volunteers receive specialized training offered by the association and are certified in mentoring methodology.
What is SCORE’s relationship with the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA)?
SCORE is a U.S. Small Business Administration resource partner, meaning that we are funded in part by a grant from the SBA.
What is SCORE’s economic impact?
In 2019 alone, SCORE helped to create 29,681 new businesses and add 97,387 new jobs to the American economy. SCORE’s cost to create one business in 2019 was $394, and the cost to create one job was just $120. For every dollar appropriated to SCORE, $34.66 was returned to the Federal Treasury. Additionally, 67% of clients said their revenue increased in 2019.
